Understanding dilution ratios

A ratio of 10 water parts to 1 chemical-solution part creates 11 total parts. The source solution is therefore 1/11 of the output. This differs from a description of “1 in 10 total parts.”

Keep the source concentration separate

If the pickup container holds 12.5% SH, a 10:1 water-to-solution ratio gives 12.5 ÷ 11 = 1.1364% nominal SH. A premixed pickup solution needs its own concentration entered.

Real draw is equipment-dependent

Published ratios may use different conventions. Follow the exact equipment documentation and verify draw using the manufacturer’s approved procedure. Hose, pressure, nozzle and solution properties can change performance.

Mathematical estimates only. Follow product labels, SDS, equipment instructions and applicable regulations. Never mix sodium hypochlorite with acids, ammonia or incompatible chemicals. Only include surfactants explicitly approved as compatible by the manufacturer. Nominal percentages and additive volumes do not account for density, degradation or chemical reactions.
