How it works
Sand weight = area ÷ coverage per unit weight × (1 + waste % ÷ 100). Bags = sand weight ÷ bag weight, rounded up. Coverage is sq ft per lb or m² per kg, not area per bag. To convert a label stating 100 sq ft per 50 lb bag, enter 2 sq ft/lb. This estimates jointing material between installed pavers, not bedding sand below them.
1,000 sq ft at 2 sq ft/lb needs 500 lb. With 10% waste, allow 550 lb, or 11 bags of 50 lb each.
Frequently asked questions
Why is there no default coverage?
Paver dimensions, joint width and depth, compaction and product type change consumption substantially. Use the product’s guidance for your joint configuration or a measured trial.
Does this calculate sand from joint geometry?
No. It uses the coverage rate you supply. Confirm joints and product installation requirements before ordering.
Is this for bedding sand below pavers?
No. It estimates polymeric or other jointing sand from a product-specific coverage rate. Bedding material uses a different volume calculation and specification.
